Nocturnal Guardian, 2021
By displaying nocturnal animals together, this work will resemble my childhood adoration for the night. As a child, days were often spent setting up lights and sheets in the forest to attract moths and beetles once the sun set. My signal to come inside for the night was the yelping of Coyotes and Foxes from the woods. Despite it being the most active time for moths, the later hours of the night would be off limits to me considering the potential danger. The inclusion of a taxidermied fox will represent its protection of the forest’s moths I was out to collect. Concurrently the fox will embody myself, and my own fascination with nocturnal insects. It’s position over the collection of moths will exhibit a sense of protection and adoration for the specimens it overlooks.
